Great Stuff to See and Do!
The layout of the new museum
The concept of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa is for it to be a “museum open to the city like a park.” The museum is located in the center of Kanazawa City and is designed to be like a park in which anyone can drop in at any time to discover great art or meet fellow museumgoers, among other experiences. Compared to typical museums, there is a real emphasis on being cheerful, fun, and easy to use. The museum also features nighttime opening hours, charming shops, restaurants, and more.
The museum grounds are surrounded on three sides by roads, and in order for people to be able to enter from any side, a circular shape was used that makes no distinction between the front and back of the museum. It is a design that integrates the building into the surrounding area. If you walk around the circular corridor of the building, you’ll be able to see all of the various facilities and their different characteristics.

Experience outdoor art
Glass is used for much of the outer wall and interior walls to create a space that is transparent, bright, and open, and to enable fellow museumgoers to feel as if they are “encountering” one another indoors or outdoors.

A modern art museum that stimulates the senses
One reason for the popularity of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa is being able to touch and enjoy modern art up close, even if you are not an expert, including the works of James Turrell with their mysterious light or the illusory pool by Leandro Erlich.
