Uchinomaki Onsen lies in the caldera, surrounded by a ring of mountains. It is a quintessential hot-spring town, one of the best in Aso, and boasts an abundance of high-quality hot-spring water. Uchinomaki Onsen is famous as a hot-spring area in which many great literary masters have stayed, including Natsume Soseki, and husband and wife Yosano Tekkan and Akiko. The slightly hot waters are colorless and transparent, and can also be drunk.
