Great Stuff to See and Do!
Enjoy many outdoorsy activities at one of Japan’s most beautiful rivers
The Shimanto Kawanoeki Canoe House is an outdoor spot in the mid-stream area of the Shimanto-gawa River that offers many different activities. At the canoeing school that even beginners can enjoy, you can go on a canoe tour that takes you eight kilometers to the famous Iwama Chinkabashi Bridge.
You can also take a sightseeing boat for a roughly 40-minute return trip exploring the Shimanto-gawa River basin and its characteristic views around the Iwama Chinkabashi Bridge. You can also soak in the Japanese scenery with the flowing river, birdsong, and friendly banter with the boat drivers.
Everything from barbeques to sports to overnight stays
The grounds of the Canoe House offer many great facilities.
The Shimanto Hiroba Campgrounds has a barbeque area, and there are also several other camping grounds around the area.
You can also enjoy indoor sports on the tennis courts and with the ping-pong tables.
In addition, you can spend the night in one of the log houses or bungalows while enjoying your chosen activities.
The great outdoors reflecting the seasons and soul of Japan
The scenery around the Shimanto Kawanoeki Canoe House changes throughout the year. In spring, you can see kingfishers and hear the songs of birds like Japanese bush warblers. You’ll be able to see genji-botaru fireflies in the small river channels in early June. The fall foliage season begins in the Kuroson Gorge in mid-November.
