Shiretoko
Shiretoko is a peninsula in the eastern part of Hokkaido that juts out into the Sea of Okhotsk. The Shiretoko mountain range includes Mt. Rausu, and in the winter, drift ice washes up on the shore. Shiretoko has been registered as a World Natural Heritage site in recognition of its rich ecosystem and environment that nurtures rare plants and animals.
