Takeo City is located in the western part of Saga Prefecture and once flourished as a post town on the Nagasaki Kaido highway, connecting Kokura in Fukuoka Prefecture and Nagasaki in Nagasaki Prefecture. The city is known for Takeo Onsen, a 1,300-year-old hot spring town, as well as other tourist attractions like the beautiful vermilion-lacquered tower gate and the exquisite Japanese gardens of Mifuneyama Rakuen.
